CASE STUDY: HYPER-MODERN LABELS FOR ONE OF THE WORLD’S OLDEST COSMETICS FIRMS

Background

Cyclax was started way back in 1896 and as such is one of the longest standing brands in the world of cosmetics, having received a Royal Warrant in 1961, and survived the London Blitz, despite one of its factories being utterly destroyed.

As such it was a great honour when we were appointed by Cyclax to help brand its new hand and body lotion range. These products come in attractively-shaped curved bottles that are designed to be both ergonomic and pleasing on the eye when either on shelf or a website.

However, the visual impact needed more than the bottle shape to reflect the brand values. Cyclax wanted to focus on decorating the bottle to really accentuate the uniqueness of the offering. As such a collaborative effort with Reel Label Solutions was made to take the initial design concept and turn it into something exceptional.

Challenge

The artwork presented by Cyclax certainly reflected the brand values by utilising nature for the enhancement of health and beauty. The brand was offering a range of face and body care products, created and blended with aromatics and plant extracts. However, our label print experts and graphic designers spotted several difficulties executing the specification and delivering the objectives. Using RLS expertise, we were able to identify areas for improvement that both reduced the cost of the product yet still delivered in line with the customer’s aspirations. Above all we delivered on time despite challenging deadlines!

The Reel Labels solution

At Reel, we don’t just print labels. We work with our customers to ensure they get the maximum impact – and maximum value – from their labels. We volunteer our expertise free of charge to improve the quality of the end product. In this instance, we started with a brief for a silver foil / 4-colour image utilising a Pantone colour and produced three different artwork concepts (featuring different colours and images) for the customer to select their preference. We proceeded rapidly to print digital samples, showing different ideas for each concept, allowing an end result with different metallic effects and a strong, punchy impact.
